Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. welcomed Canadian Cultural Planning Expert, Jeffrey Evenson at the Capitol, yesterday, who will be assisting the Negros Occidental tourism stakeholders in conducting a weeklong cultural mapping of cultural assets for tourism.

The province has resources that contribute to the unique environment as well as qualities that need assessment and recommendations for the development of Bacolod-Talisay-Silay tourism products.

Negros Occidental is one of the provinces under the BATCH 3 program of the Local Government Support Program-Local Economic Development (LGSP-LED), which is a cooperative program between the government of Canada and the Philippines, through the Dept. of Interior and Local Government, that aims to enable and support local government units in creating local business environment that are conducive to investments and job creation.

The team is joined by Genevieve Asselin, a representative from the Canadian Embassy, who is the Team Leader of the Tourism Circuit Development Program.

At the end of the assessment, recommendations will be discussed with key LED partners in the province and Manila from DILG, Dept. of Tourism, Heritage Society of the Philippines, and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), among others.

The cultural mapping activity is a component of the approved program on Mainstreaming Public-Private Initiatives in Negros Occidental. /Capitol News
