Danjugan Island

– The Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc.’s (PRRCFI) initial project was the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Project (PRRP) which purchased Danjugan Island for conservation. The 1.5 –kilometer island ranks among the Philippines’ top 10 gems. The 43-hectare sanctuary is home to the endangered white-breasted eagle. It features 5 lagoons, 70 bird species, 572 fish species belonging to 139 genera, 244 hard coral species, 17 mangrove species, at least 10 bat species and 22 butterfly species. The surrounding reef is under the Danjugan Island Marine Reserve and Sanctuaries with three Special Management Areas (No Take Zones) established in 2000 through Cauayan Municipal Ordinance 99-52.
